Amateur Radio
Iām fairly new to amateur radio, but I currently hold my Canadian Amateur Radio Basic Qualification (with Honours) and am active with my callsign VE7TZB from home and the outdoors.
Some of the clubs I belong to are:
- North Island Amateur Radio Society
- Director, Nanaimo Amateur Radio Association
- Cowichan Valley Amateur Radio Society
You can check out my profile on QRZ if you want to log a contact.
I maintain a Discord bot that makes it easier to interact with various amateur radio information sources. It is hosted on a private git server so get in touch with me if you are interested in obtaining a copy of the source for your Discord server.
My Rigs #
My QTH shack consists of a Kenwood V71A 50W transceiver as my main radio and I have an old Kenwood commercial radio programmed to the APRS (144.390MHz) frequency acting as an iGate, which is connected to a DigiRig Mobile and Direwolf running in a docker container. I also have a handful of Baofeng handheld transceivers with 14ā Nagoya whip antennas as well.
For portable use I have a Kenwood TM-D75A and a Yaesu VX-6R. I also have a Kenwood TM-D710G in a pelican-style case paired with a speaker, DigiRig, and a Lenovo m720q running ArcOS connected to a portable 14ā monitor for VHF/UHF digital modes and playing around with portable APRS. I also have a Yaesu FT450D HF transceiver paired with a VE7LSE 10-15-20-40-80m linked dipole topped on a a 23ft mast that I deploy on location for Parks on the Air and Summits on the Air activations.
In my truck I run a Kenwood TM-D710A (modified with internal GPS) 50W mobile transceiver connected to a Comet CA-2X4SR dual band 40ā antenna.
